Science

With a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science and a Master’s in Public Health, I have confidently guided many students through their challenges with K-8 Science, Biology, and Chemistry to help them achieve greater understanding of science and improved grades.

PSAT Prep

The PSAT takes place in the Fall of 9th, 10th, and 11th grade. The PSAT can help your child prepare for the SAT and qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program if they score within a certain range. I have been helping students prepare for the PSAT for 5+ years and have had several become National Merit Scholars.

College Prep/Applications

The college application cycle can take a lot of planning and guidance. I have helped 50+ students with as they prepare to apply to their dream schools and programs. With a strong understanding of what college admissions boards are seeking in student applicants, I can help your student prepare a strong application and essays.

HSPT/ ISEE

The High School Placement test (HSPT) and Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) are admission tests for middle and/or high school, present in some competitive schools districts. I have 6+ years of experience tutoring for these exams and have helped many students gain admission to great schools.

“Lauren is an AMAZING tutor! She is so friendly and helpful. Even when you make a mistake, she kindly guides you to the correct answer and helps you understand the logic behind the questions.

My Services

Standard/ Advanced Tutoring

1:1 tutoring allows for your child to learn beyond the classroom setting and ask questions without fear of judgement. Standard tutoring is for students in grades K-8 and comes at a slighter lower rate than Advanced Tutoring, which includes SAT/ACT, ISEE, HSPT and high school subjects.

College Prep/ Essay Writing

College Admissions are becoming increasingly competitive with each passing year. Because many schools are test-optional, it’s important for a student’s application to stand out beyond test scores. I can help with writing personal statements, school-specific supplemental essays, and the admissions process in general.

Group Tutoring

Group tutoring is available for up to 4 students at a time learning the same subject. This is a great option for your child and other students in their class to learn in a setting with a smaller student to teacher ratio. Group tutoring allows for a cheaper rate per family than individual tutoring.

How I’ll help your student succeed

In our first session, I sit down with my new student over Zoom and take the opportunity to get to know each other. Then, depending on their tutoring subject (e.g. SAT, Algebra, Biology), we’ll discuss their current or past experience with that subject. This might include grades and level of understanding if it’s an academic subject or past practice tests if it’s test prep. We’ll discuss their goals and develop a timeline for practice tests and homework that make it possible to reach their grade or score goals.

I recommend weekly tutoring for all students as a baseline, but depending on necessity, I will sometimes recommend increasing the frequency of tutoring. I start each session by answering any pressing questions on students’ minds as it relates to tutoring.

Some academic students like to bring their own homework or study guides to sessions which we’ll go over together. However, I will always have content prepared to practice if a student comes to session with nothing. For test prep students, based on previous practice test score reports, we will spend each session covering 2-4 topics that the student did poorly with on the practice test, leaving time for review at the end.

“Lauren is very flexible with hours and always makes sure my school’s schedule works with her availability. She’s very dedicated to making sure that I was able to grasp every lesson with extra practice available.

— Sophia G., Algebra 2 Student
